Youth, Unemployment and migration.
Youth, Unemployment and migration.
Youth, unemployment and migration.
Youth are very important group among any society in the world with the spirit of their activism, motivation, leadership, and hard-working, many nations have developed and others have evolved from the low level of illiteracy, under-development, poverty and low economic growth.
The potentiality of youth can be utilized in many ways which can drive societies to a better living style and economic progress.
The possibility of success and the development of a country is estimated by the percentage of productive youth which belong to that country. Youth are like a razor with two sharp sides, if it is used appropriately, it works well for ever at any circumstances but it can be a bad tool for undermining all the good things as well.
There are many challenges which currently face youth around the world especially in under-developed countries.Millions of young graduates with different academic degrees graduate from universities and colleges and join in to the markets with no experience and information.
Getting job or employment is the first ambition they have in hearts while the possibility of such opportunities are very scarce in the most of their countries. Particularly in the under-developed world where corruption, nepotism and tribalism have ruined their system of governance, youth worry about who will hire them at the end their study. “If you have no focal point in the employment arena, thus the chance of getting employed is very obscure and none hires none” this is the believe of youth for employment. And after that their destination of job seeking ends up in desperate and stress which drive youth to think differently and act wrongly.
In Somalia where 70% of its population is youth, 65% are unemployed which marks the country to be one of the highest-leading unemployment-hit countries of the world.
Beside the multi-sided problems facing to Somali youth, migration is the bad consequence of high unemployment rate in the country. Most of the youth flee or migrate the country be seeking peaceful and prosperous life which is better than the life of the country and joblessness. The magnitude of migration is vast and has spread all over the country from Somaliland to South-Central regions and that means migration has also influenced in the peaceful and stable parts of the country.
Besides the reasoning of “unemployment causes migration” migration its self is threat and human tragedy due to its tremendous loss of life, prison, rape, disease, and human trafficking. Thousands of Somali youth have died in their way to Europe while large number of them are in jail which their situation are shared on social media with the view of “beating and torturing”
here by i recommend the following points;
- To redouble the job creation and employment opportunities in the country by government and private sectors.
- To make national awareness on migration and policies regarding.
- To build the capacity and skills of the youth by strong engagement and better development approaches.
- Youth should have to engage in entrepreneurship for self-reliance and economic sustainability.
